How Golden Gate Bridge tours differ
Crossing the bridge costs nothing, so a tour has to give you something extra: a guide, a bike, a seat on a bus or a view from the water. The options below differ in length, price and how much of the bridge they actually cover. A bay cruise shows the bridge from the water, a bus covers a wider city route and a bike tour takes you across and down to Sausalito.
The examples come from single operators. They show what one product cost when published, not a market range. A published price is not a checkout price for every date, and it does not show free seats on your day.

The tour types in detail
What each one involves.
Guided walks
San Francisco City Guides asks for no tour price. It suggests a donation of $20 per person and requires registration in advance. The guides do not accept personal tips. Dates are listed for Wednesday and Saturday, with no promise of a departure on a given day.
Walking the bridge โBike tours
The listed route runs from Fisherman's Wharf along the waterfront, over the bridge and down to Sausalito, about 8 miles. The return is by ferry. There are no bike rentals at the bridge itself, so rent in the city or join a tour.
Biking the bridge โHop-on hop-off buses
A 24 hour ticket lets you get on and off during that time. Check which stops the route includes before you buy.
Bay cruises
The 60 minute cruise leaves from Pier 43ยฝ at Fisherman's Wharf and runs all year. The route includes the shoreline, the bridge and Alcatraz, with audio in 16 languages. The 90 minute cruise passes under both the Golden Gate Bridge and the Bay Bridge. The published prices include taxes, fees, tip and the audio tour.
Bay cruises โAlcatraz is a separate ticket
An ordinary bay cruise does not land on the island. Only the authorized Alcatraz ferry, Alcatraz City Cruises, lands visitors. Island visits do not run from 26 October to 18 November 2026 because of dock work. For 26 October to 1 November the operator advertises a 90 minute cruise with no landing.
Alcatraz โBefore you book
Four checks that save money and disappointment.
- Look at the start point. The bike tour starts at 2661 Taylor Street and the cruises at Pier 43ยฝ, not at the bridge.
- Ask whether the ferry back is part of the price on a bike tour.
- Check the date range. Some departure times apply only from March to September.
- Read the cancellation terms. The cruise operator's standard tickets are generally not refundable, with flexible use within the same year.
No tour can promise a clear view. Fog is common in summer, and the fog and best time page explains the pattern.
