Golden Gate Bridge toll in 2026

Only southbound traffic pays, meaning cars heading from Marin County into San Francisco. Driving north is free. The toll is collected electronically at the Toll Plaza, with no cash and no stopping. You pay with a FasTrak device, a license plate account, a one-time payment or by invoice sent afterward.

Since July 1, 2026, a standard two-axle car or motorcycle pays $10.25 with FasTrak, $10.50 with a license plate account or one-time payment, and $11.25 when the bill comes by invoice. Walking and biking across the bridge cost nothing. This site is an independent guide, so check the payment options for your vehicle before you drive.

6 axles$61.50$63.00$67.50
7 or more axles$71.75$73.50$78.75

Motorcycles pay the same as a two-axle car. Larger vehicles pay by axle count, so a camper van, a truck or a car with a trailer can fall into a higher row. Count the axles of the whole vehicle, including any trailer, before you assume the car rate.

Qualified carpools with FasTrak pay $8.25. That discount depends on meeting the carpool rules, so a full car does not automatically qualify.

How to pay

Four ways, all without stopping.

FasTrak

A transponder in the car. It carries the lowest rate.

License plate account

You link your plate to a payment card in advance. The camera reads the plate at the Toll Plaza.

One-time payment

You pay online for a single crossing. The district allows this up to 30 days before you cross or within 48 hours afterward. Enter your plate number correctly.

Toll invoice

If you do nothing, the bill goes to the registered owner of the car. This is the highest rate, $11.25 for a standard car.

Cash is not accepted at the bridge. Some outside payment points take cash, but that is not the same as paying with cash at the Toll Plaza.

Paying the toll in a rental car

Most visitors who drive over the bridge do it in a rental.

Ask the rental company first

Rental companies can charge their own service or convenience fees on top of the toll. The amount is not the same everywhere. Ask how the company handles bridge tolls and whether you can opt out of its program under the rental contract.

Paying yourself

If you pay the toll yourself as a one-time payment, match the plate number and the dates of your rental. If you use a temporary license plate account, set the end date to the end of your rental.

If you skip it

An unpaid crossing is not free. The bill goes to the registered owner, which is the rental company, and the company may add its own fees before it charges you.

Traffic, parking and other ways to cross.

Night lane closures

Since October 5, 2026, lane closures for earthquake retrofit work take place at night, usually on weekdays from about 8 p.m. At least one lane per direction stays open, but expect delays.

Parking after you cross

Stopping at the south end means paid parking at the Welcome Center. The north end has a free viewpoint lot.
